The chin defines the lower third of the face, and when it’s weak, recessed, or poorly shaped, it can throw off the entire facial balance — especially in profile.

A well-shaped chin:

  • Low water absorption
  • Good moldability

My go-to products:

  • Restylane Lyft

  • Radiesse (non-HA, for experienced injectors only)

For patients with thin skin or who need refinement after structural support, I may layer with a softer filler like RHA 3 or Volbella.

✍️ Injection Techniques

I generally use a needle for projection and a cannula for contouring and safety.

Let’s go step by step.

🔸 Deep Injection for Projection (Needle)

  • Use a 27G needle
  • Target the supraperiosteal plane — directly on the bone
  • Inject boluses of 0.1–0.2 mL for projection
  • Key points:
    • Pogonion (central chin point)
    • Lateral chin (to widen or balance proportions)

✅ Always aspirate and inject slowly.

🔹 Superficial Contour Blending (Cannula)

  • Use a 25G or 22G cannula, 50 mm
  • Entry point: just lateral or below the chin
  • Inject in the subcutaneous plane
  • Fan small threads for contour smoothing or symmetry correction

This works well for blending out pre-jowl sulcus, softening the mental crease, or enhancing the jawline-chin transition.

💉 Volumes I Typically Use

  • Mild definition: 0.5–0.7 mL
  • Moderate correction: 1–1.2 mL
  • Profile balancing or full enhancement: 1.5–2 mL+

Always start with a lower amount and reassess. You can always add, but overfilling is hard to undo — especially in the chin.

  • ❌ Injecting in the wrong plane → causes lumpiness or asymmetry
  • ❌ Ignoring proportions → chin shape must match the rest of the face

📋 Post-Treatment Care

Advise your patient:

  • Mild swelling or soreness is normal
  • No pressure on the chin for 24–48 hours (avoid leaning, shaving, etc.)
  • No hot environments, heavy exercise, or makeup for the first day
  • Final result sets in around 7–14 days
